“Secret of Change” Documentary Filming
July 15, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
We’re going to be doing a 180 for this month’s movie night! Instead of watching a movie, you will have a chance to be in a movie.
“The Secret of Change” is a UK documentary series that follows a journey of discovery, exploring communities along the West Coast of North America that are involved in grassroots change. The crew will be filming indoors at City Centre Library on Wednesday, July 15, 6-8:30pm, and then outdoors in The Grove on Saturday, July 18.
One of the themes of the documentary is how Transition Initiatives serve to build connections in communities so that people can share ideas, collaborate and grow their resilience.
You do not need to be involved in a Transition Initiative to be involved in this filming!
If you are passionate about seeing or creating positive social and environmental change here in Surrey, and want to connect with others then these events are for you!
Below you will find an outline of the gathering at City Centre Library on July 15.
Start giving some thought to how you might participate. Let us know if you have any questions.
Outline of July 15 Gathering
6:05pm Introduce ourselves.
6:10pm Transition Map: Layout map in middle of Table or pin to wall. Get each person to write down their area and one thing about their area that they feel is interesting/ proud of. Then to write down one thing that Transition has impacted in their lives in Surrey and pin that to the map. Write down/ draw another thing that Transition has done for Surrey and pin that to the appropriate area of the map.
*If there is a small number of people or enough time* Get one person to read out another person’s ideas and go round the group to have a discussion and build up ideas of Transition in Surrey.
6:35pm Introduce The Secret of Change. Talk about the Canada episode and the themes we have for it so far.
6:45pm Split the group into smaller groups. Give out markers and big sheets of paper including the following questions and ask groups to come up with answers:
- In a couple of sentences what do you think of the idea for the documentary from what you’ve heard so far?
- If you were filming the documentary yourself what would you most like to find out?
- Do you have any thoughts on how the series could be made interesting to people who have not heard of transition before?
- As members of Transition what would you most like to see in a new documentary about the movement?
- Any more thoughts?
Have discussion about ideas that have been written.
7:25pm Comfort Break/ Refreshments: Whilst having refreshments, we would like to do short one to one interviews with a few members.
8:20pm Thanks and release forms to be signed
